MAORI HEALING & VISCERAL MANIPULATION
Ana’s passion for practicing massage therapy was born from her encounters with the Maori healers of New Zealand. The physical body talks to each one of us through pain, discomfort, and disease. Ana reads and listens to the body translating its message into words. Using deep tissue bodywork, she releases the trapped emotions that cause pain and restores the body’s energy flow. The Maori massage is recommended to all; particularly those of us in chronic pain, the ones going through emotional stress, old emotional trauma, and the unloading of everyday-life “gunk.” For more information on Maori Healing, click here.
As a Reiki practitioner, Ana offers Holy Fire and Karuna Reiki sessions and training.

Visceral Manipulation (VM) was developed by world-renowned French Osteopath and Physical Therapist Jean-Pierre Barral.
VM assists functional and structural imbalances throughout the body including musculoskeletal, vascular, nervous, urogenital, respiratory, digestive and lymphatic dysfunction. It evaluates and treats the dynamics of motion and suspension in relation to organs, membranes, fascia and ligaments. VM increases proprioceptive communication within the body, thereby revitalizing a person and relieving symptoms of pain, dysfunction, and poor posture.
An integrative approach to evaluation and treatment of a patient requires assessment of the structural relationships between the viscera, and their fascial or ligamentous attachments to the musculoskeletal system. Strains in the connective tissue of the viscera can result from surgical scars, adhesions, illness, posture or injury. Tension patterns form through the fascial network deep within the body, creating a cascade of effects far from their sources for which the body will have to compensate. This creates fixed, abnormal points of tension that the body must move around, and this chronic irritation gives way to functional and structural problems.
Ana has been learning VM from the Barral institute since 2015 and is working towards her certification. VM is a gentle yet effective way to promote change in muscle-skeletal issues and viscera (internal organs). For more information on VM click here.

About Ana Gonçalves
Ana was born and raised in Brazil, where she graduated vet school at the age of 22. She moved to Fort Collins, CO, to attend graduate school. Her plans of going back to Brazil to be a professor changed when she met her husband. Ana had been doing research in the Clinical Sciences department of the Colorado State University. With what she learned during her MS training, Ana has been teaching ultrasound to veterinarians and technicians since 1999. She moved to Knoxville, TN, in 2004. "It was love at first sight! When I first arrived in Knoxville, I felt right at home..."
In 2008, Ana met the Maori Healers - "I was only there to hold the energy and give support to those receiving the bodywork," she said, "but it became much more than that!"
Many encounters and two years later, Ana had a massage license and started her Maori Healing practice. She continued to learn from the Maori people, living in Auckland, New Zealand, for 6 months in 2011. Ana was a participant in the first Te Rongopae retreat in 2014 and has continually supported the Maori Healers in their mission. She has been hosting the Maori Healers in Knoxville and has been given permission by the Maori Healers to teach Maori Healing techniques in the United States.
Ana started learning visceral manipulation in 2015. She has just completed her classes and is working towards her certification though the Barral Institute.
